Some babies start getting their teeth at about 6 months or earlier. The two bottom front teeth (central incisors) usually erupt first. Then the two upper central incisors. The rest of the baby teeth come in the next 18 to 24 months. Not always in an orderly fashion from front to back. There are all together 20 teeth that come in. Between the ages of 2 to 3 years, all of their teeth should be in. See your pediatric dentist for check-ups.

If you ever have a tooth that gets knocked out hold the top of it and not the root end. Rinse it off but do not clean or handle the tooth more than you need to. Re-insert the tooth in the socket it came out of using a clean piece of gauze or clean cloth. If you can not re-insert it bring it with you to the pediatric dentist in a glass of milk or water. Time is very important in this situation. So get to the dentist as quickly as possible.

Tooth decay from baby bottles is caused when a baby goes to sleep while bottle feeding. When they are sleeping the flow of saliva is reduced and the natural self-cleansing action in the mouth is not working. This causes teeth to decay rapidly. Try to never put your child to bed with a bottle and wean him or her from the bottle at 12-14 months of age. See a children’s dentist as soon as you see decay happening. By the age of 1 your child should have his or her first dental visit.
