When it comes to sedation dentistry for children, this method has always been a bit more tricky. Being that children’s bodies react differently to sedation than adults, it takes someone who knows exactly what’s going to happen to do the process right. The last thing you would want to do is have someone give an adult size dose of sedation to a child. Just make, the outcome is not going to be good.

Regular teeth cleaning for children is recommended for their oral hygiene. Even though children lose their baby teeth they need to use them for quite a few years before their permanent teeth come in. With regular teeth cleanings the plaque and tartar that has built up on their teeth will be removed. Then your child’s teeth will be polished with a flavored paste that will help to keep them looking bright and white. This procedure should be done at least every 6 months. Your Dallas Pediatric dentist at Happy Teeth Dental Center are ready to help your children stay on the right track with their dental care.

Kids should brush their teeth 2 times a day with a toothbrush that has soft bristles. Put a small strip of fluoride toothpaste on the brush and move the brush in small circular motions. Hold the toothbrush at an angle while brushing and cover all areas between teeth and the surface of each tooth. Do this for several minutes to thoroughly brush your teeth. You want to brush down on the upper teeth and brush up on the lower teeth and remember to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth before you rinse. Talk with your pediatric dentist about regular check-ups.

During that visit your child will also receive a dental cleaning, which involves plaque removal, brushing, flossing, and a fluoride application. Dental floss is used to remove food particles and plaque for areas between the teeth that a tooth-brush can’t reach. It is very important to floss between your teeth every day. Make it a habit to floss every night to make sure your teeth are squeaky clean before you go to bed. Sometimes the first time you begin to floss your gums may bleed a little. If your gums continue to bleed after every flossing consult your pediatric dental care office.
